Obituary for WIlliam David Scott

William David Scott (85) of Webster, Florida passed peacefully in his sleep June 6, 2021 surrounded by family.

David was born to parents Johnston and Susie Scott on February 12, 1936. He is preceded in death by both parents, brothers Lester and Morfield Scott, and sister Alice Price. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jo Scott, sons Michael (Gail) Scott and Gregory Scott, granddaughters Colleen Scott, Erica (Tyler) Ward, and Kaile Jo Scott, great-granddaughters Lily and Lana Ward and brother Johnston (Connie) Scott.

David was loyal to his family, country, and church. He retired from the United States Navy after 30 years serving in multiple roles including career counseling to help guide other service men and women. He also continued a lifelong passion for photography after his role as a naval photographer. Two highlight locations David and Betty lived with their children were Japan and California. Each stationing meant new friends, new lessons, and new memories.

After retirement from the military, he and his wife Betty chose to settle down back home near family in Florida. He spent ten years working locally with the Minute Maid corporation and managed an estate of cattle until his passing. His strong work ethic, however, was mostly focused on ministry and outreach. Anyone he met he wanted to testify to how much mercy, protection, and love God had given him throughout his life. His most treasured times were teaching Sunday school, attending revivals, hosting gospel musicians and aiding with the prison ministry.

He and Betty enjoyed traveling with their family and friends and trying to attend as many of their family events as possible. David enjoyed helping organize larger family reunions and also prized simple lunches with his brothers. He believed in God first, family second and showed daily that was his priority. If David could share any words with those of us still here mourning, it would be the words of the Bible. He would tell you they were words of truth that told his life story. Words describing an everlasting and never-failing love, words of his salvation, words of fulfilled promises, healings and miracles, words about work and reward, words to remind us that we will see him again.
Matthew 5:4 - Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Services will be held at the Christian Worship Center in Center Hill where David was a member on Monday, June 14, 2021. There will be a short viewing at 12pm followed by a service and transport to the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
